Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Surgical Pre-Assessment and Admissions Unit at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. This role is offered as a developmental position, making it an excellent opportunity for candidates who may not yet have pre-assessment experience but are keen to build specialist skills in this area.
In this role, you will work as a specialist nurse assessor, playing a key part in preparing and optimising patients for elective surgery. You will assess patients’ health, identify potential risks, and help ensure they are in the best possible condition prior to their procedures.
You will work closely with a supportive and experienced anaesthetic team, while also developing autonomy within a nurse-led pre-operative assessment clinic. The role involves managing your own caseload of patients within a modern, friendly, and collaborative environment.
Previous experience in pre-operative assessment is not essential, as comprehensive in-house training and development will be provided. However, applicants should have a background in surgical care and a minimum of one year’s post-registration experience within the UK.
This is a rewarding opportunity to develop specialist knowledge, contribute to high-quality patient care, and grow your career within a supportive team aligned to Frimley Health’s values of working together, striving for excellence, and embracing the future.
• Undertake comprehensive pre-operative anaesthetic assessments for patients undergoing elective surgery.
• Ensure patients are assessed and managed on an individual basis, supporting safe and timely preparation for surgery.
• Perform and interpret clinical observations, investigations, and test results, recognising any abnormalities and escalating where appropriate.
• Deliver high-quality, evidence-based care, maintaining clear and compassionate communication with patients in line with Trust values and professional standards.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care, including referrals for further assessment, support, or investigations as required.
• Maintain effective communication between teams and patients to support a safe and seamless surgical pathway. Provide clear verbal and written information to patients and their carers.
• Demonstrate professionalism, kindness, and sensitivity when caring for patients, relatives, visitors, and colleagues.
• Contribute to the sharing and development of best practice within the department and across the wider Trust.
• Support patients throughout their surgical journey, including admission, preparation for theatre, and the safe recovery and discharge of day case patients.
