Summary


General Rota Porter Porter

We are seeking a reliable and motivated individual to support the smooth and safe movement of patients, specimens, and critical medical supplies across the St. Mary’s Hospital site. Portering Services covers, Porter, Post & Waste. This role is essential in ensuring timely patient care and efficient coordination between wards and departments.

Routinely communicating with all levels of staff by way of person to person, phone or radio, delivering a high-quality service to all areas, ensuring that tasks are carried out in a professional and timely manner.

Key Responsibilities of the role include:

Collecting and delivering clinical specimens from wards and departments within designated timeframes, ensuring accurate handling and returning any specimens that are incorrectly labelled or require clarification as requested.

Check, sign out, and transport units of blood and blood products from the Blood Bank to hospital wards using the personalised computerised barcode system.

Use blood transport cool boxes when required, and ensure any unused units are returned to the blood fridge within the designated timeframe and recorded appropriately.

Obtain a signature from a senior member of nursing staff upon delivery of blood products to confirm receipt.

Assist with helicopter patient transfer operations when required.

Safely transfer patients across the hospital site using stretchers or beds, including operating motorised bed pushers.

Support nursing staff during patient transfers using appropriate equipment such as roller boards and patient slides.

Transport patients safely via wheelchair across the hospital site, including navigating inclines such as a 1:16 slope
