Summary

The duties will include pre, per and post-operative management of surgical patients, assisting with care of the patients on the ICU, and provision of assistance with resuscitation calls.Other responsibilities include: Communication:This will include responsibility for and arrangement of: Communication and liaison with all other medical and service departments within the hospital. Communication with other hospitals. Teaching The postholder may be involved in teaching other doctors and medical students, nurses and other paramedical staff in the team in speciality and special interest The post holder will also be expected to participate on all on call rotas. The department manages 3 tiers of cover Theatres, Obstetrics and ITU and rotation will be through all of these disciplines. All rotas are EWTD compliant in line with the 2016 Junior Doctor Contract and 2019 amendments to this contract. All on call is maintained at a 1:10 ratio.The fellow will have the opportunity to engage in activities related to global anaesthesia and international collaboration, matched as far as possible to both the departments ongoing work and the fellows personal interests.Areas of involvement may include: Educational delivery and curriculum development Quality improvement initiatives Collaborative research Global health advocacy The majority of the global health work will be UK-based, using remote engagement through long-standing partnerships held by members of the anaesthetic team. While not mandatory, fellows will be encouraged and supported to undertake short visits abroad to learn more about anaesthesia service delivery and development and participate in face-to-face partnership work. Global health activities within the post have a strong emphasis on bidirectional learning and ethical partnership work. The fellow will be mentored and will receive educational supervision from senior anaesthetists with substantial experience in global anaesthesia, international partnerships, and overseas capacity development. Educational supervision and regular review meetings will support both clinical and non-clinical development. Fellows will also be encouraged to join wider global health networks and fellowship communities to enhance peer support and learning.
