About the Direct Payment Holder
The client is a young neurodivergent male who enjoys engaging in hobbies both at home and in the local community. He experiences anxiety and has a PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance) profile, so he benefits from a calm, patient and flexible approach. He may need time to build trust with new people and responds best to a person-centred, relationship-led style of support.

Hours and rate of pay 4 hours per week
Weekend availability required – Saturday or Sunday

Location Hemel Hempstead (HP3)
DBS/Checks Confirmation of DBS check
Right to Work and references will be needed.
Training Training will be offered to enable to complete the mandatory training required:
• Safeguarding Adults
• Introduction to first aid
• Health and Safety / Moving and handling

What you would be doing…
Building a positive, trusting relationship with the young person and their family
Providing calm emotional support, particularly when accessing the community
Encouraging and facilitating engagement in hobbies—beginning at home and gradually within the local community
Supporting the young person to feel safe, confident and comfortable during outings
Using a flexible, person-centred approach tailored to his needs and pace

Required skills and experience
Experience working with or supporting neurodivergent young people
Understanding of the PDA profile
Experience supporting individuals with anxiety
Awareness of ARFID (desirable but not essential)
Ability to build rapport slowly and respectfully
Calm, empathetic and patient approach
Strong communication and willingness to work collaboratively with the family
Flexibility and understanding that engagement may take time
