Purpose of Post:
The post holder will deliver a key role in contributing towards both the student and staff experience, ensuring that cleaning services standards are kept at the highest standards possible. They will be accountable for their own areas of responsibility and will ensure cleaning standards are maintained. They will support the University sustainability agenda by encouraging, monitoring and segregating the waste streams in their own areas of responsibility.
Main responsibilities:
General cleaning of areas within the University to a very high standard.
Vacuum and wash carpets.
Specialist cleaning of areas such as IT labs and laboratories.
General cleaning of residences, such as bedrooms, toilets, kitchens etc.
Changing of linen in bedrooms where required.
Collection and distribution of laundry.
Removal of rubbish from areas of responsibility.
Segregation of waste at source and segregating recycling where appropriate.
Hand-in of lost property.
Report any maintenance issues.
Follow operating instructions.
Follow COSH assessments.
Using items such as cleaning equipment.
To keep the allocated cleaning cupboard clean, tidy and request stock when required.
To become a first aider if required.
Support other areas around the campus for housekeeping as required.
External litter picking.
General recycling
Move furniture in a safe manner.
Attend courses as and when required.
Work out of hours if required, possibly including weekends and to support VIP events, open days and applicant visit days.
Expected to undertake other duties commensurate with the role where appropriate.
Carry out laundry work effectively
Support open days and applicant visit days.
Fire marshalling.
Support snow clearing as and when required.
In accordance with the University’s Information Security Policy, the post holder may deal with ‘restricted information’ as part of their duties.
For all staff the place of work is Birmingham Newman University.
2. Health & Safety:
Under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 the post holder must take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of any other person who may be affected by their acts or omissions. The post holder must also co-operate with the University on all matters concerning health and safety and not interfere with, or misuse, anything provided for the purpose of health, safety or welfare. The post holder must follow Health & Safety requirements in line with their training and instruction, and report to management any unsafe acts or conditions, defects in equipment or facilities that have the potential to affect health and safety. The post holder must report to management any injuries they receive whilst at work.
Where post holders line manage staff and services, they will be responsible for the health, safety and welfare of those staff and services in accordance with the University’s Health & Safety Organisational Arrangements.
