Hours: Full-Time | 7 on, 14 off | 7:45pm – 8:15am

Overview

A well-established, RCVS-accredited veterinary group is seeking a confident and experienced Out of Hours (OOH) Veterinary Surgeon to join its dedicated Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) team in Dewsbury.

This is an excellent opportunity for a veterinary professional who thrives in a fast-paced emergency environment, enjoys sole charge responsibility, and is passionate about delivering high-quality clinical care during out-of-hours periods.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver exceptional emergency and critical care veterinary services overnight
• Work confidently in a sole charge role, supported by an experienced ECC team
• Perform emergency surgical procedures and stabilise critically ill or injured patients
• Interpret diagnostic imaging and test results to inform clinical decisions
• Develop and adjust treatment plans and protocols to optimise patient outcomes
• Communicate effectively with pet owners, providing clear explanations of diagnoses, prognoses, and treatment options
• Manage complex and high-pressure cases with professionalism and empathy

About the Practice

This role is based within a purpose-built, 24/7 RCVS-accredited Tier 3 hospital, part of a respected veterinary group with eight sites across South and West Yorkshire.

The practice offers a comprehensive range of services, including:

• Preventative healthcare and routine consultations
• Advanced surgical procedures (orthopaedic and soft tissue)
• Diagnostic imaging (X-ray, ultrasound, CT)
• Laparoscopy, endoscopy, and echocardiography
• Rehabilitation services including physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, and laser therapy

The hospital is fully equipped with:

• Modern operating theatres and dental suite with X-ray
• On-site CT scanner and high-spec ultrasound
• Separate cat and dog waiting areas (Silver Cat-Friendly status)
• Air-conditioned consulting rooms and spacious staff facilities

Candidate Requirements

• Qualified Veterinary Surgeon (MRCVS) with relevant UK experience
• Confident working independently (sole charge) in an OOH setting
• Proven ability to perform emergency surgeries and manage critical cases
• Strong clinical decision-making and diagnostic interpretation skills
• Excellent communication and client care abilities
• Calm, adaptable, and solutions-focused under pressure
• A collaborative team player with a proactive approach
