Summary
English and/or Maths Teacher - SEN School (Small Cohort Setting)
Are you passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of young people? We are a small, independent SEN school supporting just 25 pupils, and we are looking to appoint a dedicated English and/or Maths Teacher to join our warm, collaborative team. We are open to either a combined subject specialist or individual subject teachers, with the ability to teach across both areas considered an advantage.
Our pupils often join us having experienced significant challenges, including trauma, withdrawal, and difficulty engaging with education. Many have diagnoses such as Autism (ASD), ADHD, and mental health needs.
Your role will be central in helping these young people re-engage with learning, rebuild confidence, and move forward positively in their education journey.
You will create a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment, delivering engaging, adapted, and multisensory lessons tailored to individual needs.
While our pupils are not typically outwardly challenging, they may present with high levels of anxiety and avoidance, so a calm, empathetic approach to behaviour support is essential.
You will also work closely with a wider multidisciplinary team, including therapists, CAMHS professionals, and families, ensuring a joined-up approach to every child's development and wellbeing.
- Teach English and/or Maths to learners with complex SEN needs
- Plan and deliver differentiated, engaging and accessible lessons
- Support pupils' emotional regulation, confidence, and engagement in learning
- Use strong, empathetic behaviour support strategies to reduce anxiety-based avoidance
- Adapt curriculum content, resources, and assessments to meet individual needs
- Collaborate closely with therapists, external agencies, and families
- Contribute to personalised learning plans and wider pupil support strategies
- Experience teaching English and/or Maths (SEN experience strongly desirable)
- Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills with an empathetic approach
- Ability to adapt teaching to a wide range of learning needs
- Commitment to supporting emotional wellbeing and resilience in young people
- Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team
- Knowledge of SEN-informed teaching strategies and personalised curriculum planning (desirable)
- Understanding of PDA profiles would be an advantage
- A supportive, close-knit school community where every staff member is valued
- Strong leadership and ongoing professional development opportunities
- A comprehensive employee wellbeing and assistance programme
- 20% PPA time, with the flexibility to work from home
- A genuinely impactful role supporting some of the most vulnerable learners
Starting from £35,000 per annum, depending on experience.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All appointments are subject to enhanced safeguarding checks.
We are also committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce and welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates, regardless of background or personal characteristics.
If you are ready to make a lasting difference in a setting where relationships, wellbeing, and individual progress truly matter, we would love to hear from you.
