Porfolio Pathway (PP) /Certificate of Eligibility of Specialist Registration (CESR) Rotations in Emergency Medicine
Our PP rotational programme at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital is an exciting opportunity intended to provide the clinician with the support and training required to successfully complete all aspects of the portfolio pathway process. It will be possible to provide specific three month secondment-style modules to address relevant educational and competency needs. Secondments include Anaesthesia, ITU and Children’s Emergency Medicine. The remaining nine months of the year will be working in our adult emergency department.
Our department is renowned for its training and support. The Consultant body has current FCEM examiners as well as experience at successfully becoming a Consultant via the PP process supported by this department. The departmental lead of the PP programme is heavily involved in the PP training standards committee at RCEM and thus has in depth understanding and knowledge of the processes and requirements involved.
There will be a specifically-designed training and teaching package for all successful applicants and there will be a designated Consultant supervisor for the duration of the rotation who will guide completion of the PP dossier.

We provide services from two main hospitals, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital, and a number of clinics across London and the South-East. We have over 6,000 members of staff that are PROUD to Care for nearly one million people. Both hospitals provide full clinical services, including full maternity, emergency and children’s, in addition to a range of community-based services across London, such as award-winning sexual health and HIV clinics.

We’re one of the best preforming Trusts in the country. We’re also one of the top trusts to work for – our staff say they’re engaged, motivated, and would recommend us as a place to work and receive treatment.

Our Trust has been rated by the Care Quality Commission as ‘Good’ in all five of the main domains of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led, giving an us overall rating of ‘Good’. We’ve also been awarded an ‘Outstanding’ rating for ‘use of resources’ by an NHS Improvement inspection.

Our facilities are some of the best in the country. We have been investing around £10 million a year in our estate. We are currently spending £25 million on expanding our adult and neonatal critical care facilities at Chelsea and Westminster and redevelopment of our children’s unit at West Middlesex – in partnership with our charity, CW+ and generous donors.

The Emergency Department at Chelsea and Westminster Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is a dynamic, forward thinking, busy department with a strong focus on education, training and research. We currently see approximately 140,000 patients per year with a good case mix of critical care, majors, minor injuries and primary care patients. A £12 million rebuild in 2016 has resulted in a fit for purpose, light and airy department with an aesthetic design which is appreciated by patients and creates an attractive working environment for staff.

Applicants are invited to join our dynamic team of 17 Consultants and 52 resident EM doctors.

Successful candidates will be working on a full rota with regional higher speciality trainees, clinical fellows with special interest in research, ultrasound, sports medicine and simulation. We encourage self-rostering, and the rota incorporates CPD days and study leave opportunities. Our previous clinical fellows have been well supported clinically, academically and have successfully managed to join the ACCS or Higher Speciality EM training, or to obtain a CESR in Emergency Medicine.

Fixed Term Contract for 12 months. Posts are available from December 2025 onwards and flexible start dates may be accommodated inline with service need.
