Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced, motivated and enthusiastic Band 7 NMC registered nurse with a strong interest in infection management and antimicrobial stewardship to join our Antimicrobial Management Team. This post is 0.8wte.
The Antimicrobial Management Team leads the UHD Antimicrobial Stewardship Group, working to optimise safe and effective antimicrobial prescribing across the trust. This includes monitoring antimicrobial usage and reducing the risks associated with adverse drug events, including the selection of antimicrobial resistance. The team works closely with colleagues at Dorset County Hospital as part of the One Dorset Antimicrobial Management Team, supporting a collaborative, system-wide approach to antimicrobial stewardship.
This is a challenging but highly rewarding post, offering the opportunity to work autonomously while contributing to trust-wide and system-wide antimicrobial stewardship activities.
The successful post holder will work closely with the Microbiology and Pharmacy departments and will provide expert antimicrobial guidance and support to clinical staff across the trust. The post holder will be expected to exercise a high degree of professional autonomy and clinical judgement.

This role will include:
• · Mentoring and supporting ward based Antimicrobial Guardians
• · Supporting and delivering antimicrobial stewardship education and training programmes to clinical teams across the trust
• · Providing expert advice to clinical staff of all professional groups on appropriate antimicrobial prescribing and optimisation
• · Providing advice to patients and their families regarding to the treatment of infection, where appropriate
• · Working autonomously to lead and support quality improvement projects related to antimicrobial usage
• · Supporting collection, analysis and interpretation of data for local and national antimicrobial prescribing audits
• · Contributing to the development, review and implementation of empirical antimicrobial prescribing policies
• · Supporting specialty infection-related ward rounds alongside Consultant Medical Microbiologists
• · Acting as a professional role model, leading by example in attitude, conduct and professional standards
• · Being a standing member of the Antimicrobial Management Team and the trust Antimicrobial Stewardship Group.
