Summary
Carry out tasks in delivering and supporting direct patient care as directed by a registered nurse/operating department practitioner. Assist in the restocking of supplies and maintenance of equipment as directed by a registered nurse/ODP. Adhere to departmental and Directorate procedures for the use of supplies and equipment in order to promote effective and efficient use of resources. Keep clinical areas clean and tidy and maintain a safe, pleasant environment. Ensure that nursing/theatre documentation is maintained to the Trust standard (including electronic records). Under supervision participate in conducting nursing/anaesthetic audit to achieve the agreed standards. Under the supervision of the Theatre/Anaesthetic Co-ordinator contribute and participate in the process of setting goals and benchmarking standards of care. In conjunction with the staff team contribute to developing and maintaining a departmental philosophy and model of care. Demonstrate a holistic approach to patient care, underpinned by knowledge of evidence-based practice To demonstrate awareness and compliance with Trust policies, procedures, guidelines and standards. To be aware of the Trusts framework of clinical governance within the department, seeking advice or guidance where necessary. Identify and report clinical risks so that appropriate action can be taken in accordance with the Trust risk management policy. To provide a suitable and safe environment for the physical, psychological and spiritual wellbeing for staff, patients/clients and their relatives/carers, seeking guidance or advice where necessary. Record and report all incidents/complaints involving staff, patients and visitors in accordance with West Middlesex University Hospital policies and assist in any investigations as required under the support and supervision of a registered nurse/operating department practitioner. To actively promote a healthy lifestyle for patients and staff appreciating national strategy requirements. Communication To demonstrate politeness, courtesy and sensitivity in dealing with patients/clients, visitors/relatives and colleagues, maintaining good customer relations. Carry out assigned clerical tasks as directed by a registered nurse/ODP. Report untoward incidents and any other relevant information to a registered nurse/ODP immediately. Not to undertake any duty outside of your competency and/or training. Inform a registered nurse/ODP if concerned. Contribute towards sharing good practice within the department and Trust wide. To promote a positive image of Chelsea and Westminster Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and West Middlesex University Hospital at all times. To work cohesively with all members of the theatre team in ensuring that the very best services to patients are provided at all times. Ensure all communication where required is undertaken in a responsive and inclusive manner, focusing on improvement and ways to move forward. Ensure all communication is presented appropriately to the different recipients, according to levels of understanding, type of communication being imparted and possible barriers such as language, culture, understanding or physical or mental health conditions. Human Resources Actively manage own annual leave in line with Trust and local Policy and Procedure. Maintain, update and develop personal and professional knowledge and skills by participating in the Trusts 1:1 process and PDP development. Participate in the programme for clinical supervision as required. Maintain a personal, professional profile, identifying role and skill development in line with the Scope of Professional Practice. Financial Responsibility To work together with the operating team to ensure effective use of resources. Policy Development Under the supervision of the theatre/anaesthetic co-ordinator to readily assist on delegated projects relating to local policy development where applicable and within capabilities and skills. To be actively involved in the implementation of Trust policies and procedures at department level, reinforcing their use. To actively promote a healthy lifestyle for patients and staff appreciating national strategy requirements. Service Development To assist the theatre teams and to contribute where possible, to the development and maintenance of a positive learning environment for colleagues, patients and visitors. Continuously ensure that knowledge, skills, competencies are kept up to date and to undertake further training where opportunity arise. Information Management To be actively involved in maintaining data quality on Surginet, intraoperative documentation within CERNER electronic patient record system. Undertake relevant training for electronic information systems in place and under development. Following Trust / local guidelines order relevant tests and access results reported on CERNER. Participate in the collection of audit and research data as required.
