Rate: £258.72 PAYE / £349.24 Umbrella per day
Contract: Temporary | 26 Weeks | 37.5 hrs per week

Work Pattern: Minimum 2 days per week in the office

About the Role
Slough Borough Council is seeking an experienced Housing Allocations Team Manager to lead the Allocations and Assessment function. You will manage a team responsible for maintaining the housing register, ensuring assessments comply with Part VI of the Housing Act 1996 and the Council’s Allocations Scheme, and overseeing the timely allocation of social housing through choice‑based lettings.

This is a senior technical role requiring strong legislative knowledge, policy expertise, and the ability to drive service improvements.

Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage a team of Allocations Officers and Assessors.

Ensure all assessments and decisions comply with Part VI Housing Act 1996 and the Council’s Allocations Scheme.

Oversee the timely allocation of social housing via choice‑based lettings.

Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for housing allocations.

Lead updates to the Housing Allocations Scheme, including committee governance processes.

Implement policy changes, including associated IT system upgrades.

Manage nominations relationships with Registered Providers.

Make exceptional assessment decisions where required.

Produce high‑quality reports, policies and performance monitoring data.

Support service improvement, project delivery and operational efficiency.

About You
You will bring:

Strong technical knowledge of Part VI Housing Act 1996 and allocations legislation.

Experience managing housing allocations teams or similar statutory housing functions.

Proven experience updating allocations schemes and navigating governance/committee processes.

Strong policy and report‑writing skills.

Experience implementing policy and IT system changes.

Excellent stakeholder management, including Registered Providers.

Ability to make complex, defensible assessment decisions.

Strong performance management and project management capability.

Knowledge of housing systems and data reporting.
