Summary

Functional Skills Teacher (Maths and English)

Maidstone | Full-time (all year) | Education & Training

Monday to Friday 8.30- 4.30 (4pm finish on a Friday)

We are working on behalf of a national education provider that supports young people to build positive futures through education, confidence-building and skills development.

This organisation delivers academic and vocational programmes for learners aged 16+ who are not suited to mainstream college environments. Their provision offers a highly supportive, inclusive setting where students are encouraged to develop self-belief, resilience and employability skills.

We are now seeking a passionate Functional Skills Teacher (Maths and/or English) to join one of their college sites.

The Role

As a Tutor/Teacher, you will play a vital role in supporting young people with complex needs to achieve meaningful outcomes. You’ll deliver high-quality Functional Skills teaching while acting as a positive role model and key source of pastoral support.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

Deliver Functional Skills Maths and/or English from Entry Level to Level 2
Plan and deliver engaging, well-structured lessons tailored to individual learner needs
Create an inclusive, inspirational classroom environment with high expectations
Track learner progress, set targets and maintain accurate records
Prepare schemes of work in line with curriculum, inspection and accreditation requirements
Use a range of teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs
Student Support & Behaviour

Actively support learners with complex needs and behaviours
Maintain high standards of behaviour and safeguarding within the classroom
Work collaboratively with pastoral and support staff
Build strong, trusting relationships with students and parents/carers
Wider Responsibilities

Contribute to a positive, collaborative college culture
Support inspection readiness and quality improvement
Complete associated administrative tasks (registers, exams, reporting)
Champion equality, diversity and safeguarding at all times

Effective behaviour management and learner support

About You

Qualified teacher or experienced Functional Skills practitioner
Experience working with vulnerable young people or those with complex needs
Strong classroom management and behaviour support skills
Passionate about inclusive education and student progression
Flexible, proactive and committed to teamwork
