We are building a small, consistent team around our 15-year-old daughter and are looking for a kind, reliable, and enthusiastic female Personal Assistant to join us.
Our daughter has a rare genetic condition which results in profound learning disabilities, significant physical disabilities, and complex health needs. She is non-verbal, but once you take the time to understand her, she communicates clearly in her own unique and expressive way.
She is supported by an experienced nursing team who manage all clinical aspects of her care. Your role will be to work alongside them—assisting with manual handling and daily routines—while most importantly engaging with her as a young person.
Despite her medical complexities, we are passionate about ensuring she has a rich, meaningful life filled with experiences. We are looking for someone who shares this outlook—someone who sees the young person first, not the condition.
Consistency and reliability are especially important to her. Familiar faces, predictable routines, and calm, reassuring support make a real difference. We are therefore looking for someone who values stability and wants to be part of a cohesive, long-term team.
Her health needs can vary from day to day, so flexibility, sensitivity, and responsiveness are essential.
Full training and ongoing support will be provided.
Above all, we are looking for someone with the right attitude, a strong sense of commitment, and a genuine interest in building a meaningful connection with our daughter.
Duties include:
- Other relevant duties as required
- Supporting personal care and safe moving & handling alongside nurses
- Creative and meaningful engagement (reading, crafts, cooking, music, trips out)
- Driving our wheelchair accessible vehicle (clean UK licence required)
- Working collaboratively within a warm, professional household
Candidate qualities:
- Respectful of the employer's privacy and confidentiality
- Reliable with good timekeeping
- Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative
- Hygienic, tidy and well organised
- Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties
- Patient and possess excellent interpersonal skills
- Honest and cheerful
- Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard
- Must be comfortable with pets
- Able to always work to high standards of health & safety
- Experienced supporting individuals with learning and/or physical disabilities
- Physically capable of manual handling
- Reliable and punctual
- Calm, intuitive and adaptable
- Keen to learn (experience of her specific condition not required)
- Interested in a long-term role within a stable team
Notes:
All applicants must have the right to work in the UK and be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check if required.
