We are seeking a Waste Manager to lead and oversee waste management services across a busy healthcare estate.​

This role focuses on compliance, service optimisation and sustainability, working closely with operational teams and Trust stakeholders to improve waste performance and recycling outcomes.

Job Description

The Waste Manager is responsible for managing all waste‑related activities across Chelsea and Westminster Hospital (main site) and associated community sites.

You will ensure compliance with environmental legislation and healthcare standards, while driving continuous improvement in waste segregation and service delivery.

​The role involves hands-on audit activity, data analysis and education delivery to support organisational sustainability targets.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage the waste audit programme and reporting systems

Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental requirements

Oversee duty of care documentation for all waste streams

Develop and deliver waste compliance training to staff

Support operational teams with planned and ad hoc waste movements

Analyse waste data to improve performance and reduce risk

Liaise with central teams to optimise collection schedules

Promote best practice waste segregation across all areas

Deliver ward-level engagement to improve recycling rates

Professional and Personal Competencies/Qualifications

Strong knowledge of healthcare waste management standards

Understanding of HTM 07-01 and duty of care requirements

Ability to interpret waste data and audit findings

Experience delivering training or staff engagement sessions

Confident stakeholder and client communication skills

Membership of the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management

Proactive approach to service improvement

Ability to work independently across multiple sites
