Summary
OPERATIONS (SITE) MANAGER
Marfield Sand & Gravel Quarry (Ripon) and Wensley Quarry (Leyburn), North Yorkshire
Lead two high-performing quarry operations. Drive safety, production and commercial performance.
We’re seeking an experienced Operations Manager to take full responsibility for the safe, efficient and profitable operation of two quarry sites in North Yorkshire.This is a senior, hands-on leadership role where you’ll balance HSE excellence, production delivery, cost control and people development.
This role is commutable from Ripon, Leyburn, Masham, Bedale, Knaresborough, Thirsk, Skipton, Northallerton, Richmond and surrounding areas.
The Role
Reporting to the Senior Operations Manager, you’ll lead day-to-day operations across both quarries, ensuring materials are produced and dispatched safely, efficiently and in line with budget and customer requirements.
Key Accountabilities
- Full responsibility for HSE, production, cost and performance across two operational sites
- Delivering production targets through effective resource planning and forecasting
- Driving a preventative maintenance culture and allocating maintenance resource effectively
- Leading, developing and coaching site management teams, including succession planning
- Contractor management, performance review and compliance
- Ownership and delivery of site improvement and sustainability initiatives
- Managing investments to ensure delivery safely, on time and within budget
- Stock management and collaboration with supply chain, customer services and commercial teams
- Ensuring ongoing compliance with regulatory and legislative requirements
About You
You’re a confident, visible leader with experience managing complex, safety-critical operations, ideally within quarrying, aggregates, construction materials or heavy industry.
You’ll Bring
- Proven experience leading multi-site or multi-team operations
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to set, manage and control budgets
- In-depth understanding of HSE legislation and best practice
- Ideally NEBOSH qualified with a relevant NVQ
- Strong working knowledge of the Quarries Act 1999
- Excellent communication and influencing skills across operational and commercial teams
- Structured, analytical approach to problem-solving and decision-making
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced operational environment
