Summary

CLINICAL Assess patient's suitability for CBT interventions in line with NICE guidance in a stepped care model. Providing consultations with Talking Therapies staff on suitability, feeding back to stakeholders on suitability issues to support the patient to access the right intervention. Completing onward referral to other services where appropriate. Assess and manage risk collaboratively with the patient and adhere to the Talking Therapies risk protocol, working to ensure the safety of the patient and others. Formulate,implementand evaluate therapy programmes for patients. To complete all mandated session by session outcome measures. The post holder will work with people fromdifferent culturalbackgrounds; and will, where necessary, work using an interpreter. The post holder will be expected todemonstratea commitment to equal opportunities and cultural competence. Use highly developed communication skills in working with people to understand their personal and oftenvery sensitivedifficulties. Exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment and treatment of patients in line with the service and the National Talking Therapies manual. Educate and involve family members and others in treatment asappropriate, conveying CBT and other psychological formulations with sensitivity in easily understood language. Adhere to an agreed job plan relating to the number of patient contacts offered, and clinical sessions carried out per dayin order tominimise waiting times and ensure treatment is delivered in an accessibletimelymanner. Keep coherent records of all clinical activity in line with service protocols; and complete all requirements relating to data collection within the service. Work closely with other members of the team ensuringappropriate arrangementsare in place tomaintaina stepped care approach. Assess and integrate issues surrounding work and employment into the overall therapy process. Liaise with other health and social care staff from other agencies asappropriate toappropriate care for patients. Demonstrate clinical leadershipappropriate tobanding whererequired. TRAINING AND SUPERVISION Contribute to the development; teaching and training of other mental health professionals and other staff working in the service. Attend clinical supervision on a regular basis as agreed with Manager and as outlined in the National Talking Therapies manual. Undertake Clinical Supervisors training and provide clinical supervision to other Cognitive Behavioural Therapists. Ensure all mandatory training and CPD is up to date in line with service protocol. PROFESSIONAL Be guided by agreed Trust and Sheffield Talking Therapies specific policies and procedures; Best Practice Guidance; SOPS (Standard Operating Procedures). To ensure record keeping in line with Sheffield Talking Therapies Standard Operating Procedures.This includes contemporaneous notes completed within 24 hours on the agreed patient record system, checking SHSC patient administration system prior to taking on new patients to check any risk or suitability issues, and to send a discharge summary to GP practices once completed treatment. Commitment to improving individual recovery rates in line with national targets, using data,supervisionand CPD for continuous improvement. Ensure the maintenance of standards of practice according to the employer and any regulating, professional and accrediting bodies (e.g., BABCP) and keep up to date on new recommendations/guidelines set by the Department of Health (e.g., NHS plan, National Service Framework, National Institute for Clinical Excellence). Ensure that patient confidentiality isprotected at all times. Be aware of and keep up to date with advances in the spheres of CBT and other psychological therapies. Ensure clear professionalobjectivesareidentified,discussedand reviewed with line manager and senior therapists (asappropriate)on a regular basis as part of continuing professional development (CPD). Attend and prepare for clinical/managerial supervision on a regular basis as agreed with Manager and Supervisor. Participate in individual performance reviews and respond to agreed individualobjectives, aligned with meeting the serviceobjectivesof achieving all three National Talking Therapies standards on access, waiting times and recovery rates. Keep up to date all records in relation to CPD and ensure personal development planmaintainsup to date specialist knowledge of latest theoretical and service delivery models/developments. Participate in service improvement by highlighting issues and implementing changes in practice. ADVISORY / LIAISON Provide an advisory service on matters related to the practice and delivery of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy as required by the service. Promote andmaintainpositive relationships and links with Primary Care and Secondary Care Staff to help co-ordinate the provision of an effective Psychological Therapies Service. GENERAL To contribute to the development of best practice within the service. Tomaintainup-to-date knowledge of legislation, national and localpoliciesand procedures in relation to Mental Health and Primary Care Services.
