Summary
Primary Teaching Assistant - Full Academic Year (Newport)
Full time
£460 - £500 per week
Some schools need support. Others need the right person.
This opportunity sits firmly in the second category.
We're working closely with a well-established, community-driven primary school in Newport that has a strong reputation for nurturing pupils who require additional support, academically, emotionally and socially. The school isn't just looking for another pair of hands; they want someone who can build trust, read situations, and become a consistent, positive presence in the classroom across the full academic year.
This is a full-time role from September through to July, offering genuine continuity for both you and the pupils you'll support. The school is open to trial days and a formal interview process, because finding the right fit matters on both sides.
What makes this role different?
This isn't a "sit at the back of the class" position.
You'll be working closely with pupils who may need additional support, whether that's help staying engaged, managing emotions, or accessing learning in a way that works for them. Some days will be incredibly rewarding. Others will test you. The difference here is you'll be supported by a team that understands that balance and values consistency over quick fixes.
What we're looking for
You don't need years of school experience but you do need the right mindset.
We're looking for someone who:
- Connects naturally with children and earns trust quickly
- Stays calm under pressure and doesn't take behaviour personally
- Understands that every child's "bad day" usually has a reason behind it
- Is reliable, consistent, and committed for the full academic year
- Wants to build experience in education, ALN, or child development
Experience in care, support work, or working with young people is highly relevant here.
Why work with us?
We do things differently from most agencies.
- We prioritise long-term placements, not last-minute daily bookings
- You'll be matched carefully to the right school, not just placed anywhere
- We offer honest conversations and clear expectations, no overselling
- Ongoing support, guidance, and access to relevant training
- Opportunities to build meaningful experience that actually progresses your career
Key Details
- Location: Newport
- Start: June and September
- Duration: Full academic year
- Working pattern: Full-time, term-time
- Process: Trial day + interview with the school
- Requirement: Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
If you're looking for something steady, purposeful and genuinely impactful, not just another short-term role, this is worth a conversation.
