Grounds & Maintenance Assistant (School Premises Team)OverviewWe are seeking an enthusiastic, proactive, and customer-service-oriented Grounds & Maintenance Assistant to support the day-to-day upkeep of the school’s buildings and external environment. This role combines groundskeeping with general maintenance and handyperson duties, ensuring a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment for students, staff, and visitors.The successful candidate will also contribute to the wider school community, with opportunities to engage with students on projects such as plant care and safe outdoor working practices.Key ResponsibilitiesGrounds MaintenanceMaintain school grounds including gardens, playgrounds, and pathways through mowing, strimming, pruning, planting, and general landscapingCarry out litter picking and ensure all external areas are clean and presentableMaintain trees and shrubs, including removing hazardous limbsGrit and treat walkways, car parks, and paths to ensure safety in all weather conditionsEnsure drains, gullies, and outdoor areas are free from debrisMaintain and treat outdoor furniture and fixtures (e.g., benches, tables)General Maintenance & Facilities SupportCarry out general maintenance and handyperson tasks across school propertiesAssist with basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and decorating work Operate and monitor heating systems and plant equipment, making adjustments as required Support planned preventative maintenance programmes Set up and clear furniture for events, exams, and meetings (porterage duties) Assist with opening and closing the school, including security checksRespond to emergencies relating to gas, electricity, and water, and liaise with management or contractors as neededSupport contractor and supplier coordination when requiredOperational DutiesMove and handle furniture and equipment safelyDispose of waste materials in a safe and hygienic mannerMaintain accurate maintenance records using systems such as ParagoEnsure compliance with health & safety regulations and school policiesWork flexibly, including occasional overtime, callouts, and shift cover during busy periods or staff absenceCarry out any other reasonable duties within the scope of the roleWhat we are looking for at Lycee International Winston Churchill:We are looking for talented individuals who want to be a part of a modern, bilingual, progressive and dynamic school where innovation and care provide the foundation on which we build a path to excellence for every student.Good level of spoken and written English (additional languages such as French are a bonus)Physically fit and able to perform manual tasks, including lifting and working outdoorsBasic knowledge of site maintenance (e.g., plumbing, heating, carpentry)Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive and practical approachGood organisational skills and ability to meet deadlinesStrong teamwork and interpersonal skillsFlexible and adaptable to changing prioritiesIT proficiency for maintenance systems and communication toolsAbility to work at heightExcellent punctuality and reliabilityCommitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of childrenFirst Aid qualification (desirable)Willingness to undertake training and professional developmentAbout usLycée International Winston Churchill is an independent school in Wembley offering in the Secondary section two tracks: the French curriculum and the English International Program leading to the IB Diploma programme in Y12 and Y13.The school opened its doors in September 2015 and now welcomes about 700 students from Nursery class to Year 13.
