Summary
Year 1/2 Teacher – Full-time maternity cover from June 2026
This welcoming and inclusive primary school provides a positive learning environment where pupils feel safe, supported, and motivated to do their best. Leaders promote high expectations and a strong culture of care, ensuring pupils make good progress both academically and personally.This full-time maternity cover role begins in Year 1 in June 2026 and continues into the following academic year, with the successful teacher moving up with the same class into Year 2 to provide continuity and stability for pupils.
Duties as Year 1/2 Teacher:
- Deliver engaging and well-structured lessons across the Year 1 and Year 2 curriculum
- Take full responsibility for the class, starting in Year 1 and progressing with pupils into Year 2
- Plan, prepare, and assess learning in line with the national curriculum
- Create a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment
- Support pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development
- Use effective behaviour management strategies to maintain high expectations
- Track pupil progress and adapt teaching to meet individual needs
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and support staff
- Communicate effectively with parents and contribute to wider school life
Ideal Year 1/2 Teacher:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
- Experience teaching in KS1, with confidence across both Year 1 and Year 2
- Strong understanding of the KS1 curriculum and child development
- Ability to provide consistency and continuity for pupils across academic years
- Confident classroom and behaviour management skills
- Organised, reflective, and committed to high-quality teaching
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare
