Summary

Year 1/2 Teacher – Full-time maternity cover from June 2026


This welcoming and inclusive primary school provides a positive learning environment where pupils feel safe, supported, and motivated to do their best. Teaching is purposeful and well planned, with staff working collaboratively to meet the needs of all learners. Leaders promote high expectations and a strong culture of care, ensuring pupils make good progress both academically and personally.This full-time maternity cover role begins in Year 1 in June 2026 and continues into the following academic year, with the successful teacher moving up with the same class into Year 2 to provide continuity and stability for pupils.

Duties as Year 1/2 Teacher:

  • Deliver engaging and well-structured lessons across the Year 1 and Year 2 curriculum
  • Take full responsibility for the class, starting in Year 1 and progressing with pupils into Year 2
  • Plan, prepare, and assess learning in line with the national curriculum
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment
  • Support pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development
  • Use effective behaviour management strategies to maintain high expectations
  • Track pupil progress and adapt teaching to meet individual needs
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and support staff
  • Communicate effectively with parents and contribute to wider school life

Ideal Year 1/2 Teacher:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Experience teaching in KS1, with confidence across both Year 1 and Year 2
  • Strong understanding of the KS1 curriculum and child development
  • Ability to provide consistency and continuity for pupils across academic years
  • Confident classroom and behaviour management skills
  • Organised, reflective, and committed to high-quality teaching
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare
