University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.

Please see below for detailed job description of the role.

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, HCPC‑registered dietitian to lead our dynamic gastroenterology dietetic team. If you’re passionate about specialist gastroenterology care, ready to shape service development, and keen to support and inspire others, this is an exciting opportunity to take the next step in your career.

As Team Lead, you’ll provide expert dietetic input to gastroenterology inpatients and outpatients, drive innovation across the speciality, and play a key role in planning acute dietetic services across UHS. You’ll manage and support a team of dietitians, ensuring high‑quality care and strong professional development.

UHS is a leading teaching hospital with a wide range of specialist tertiary services and a thriving research culture. Our large Dietetics and Speech & Language Therapy department (around 130 staff) offers excellent opportunities for collaboration, growth and leadership development.

University Hospital Southampton is one of England's largest acute teaching Trusts, offering a wide range of learning and development opportunities to support your career aspirations.

Located on the south coast with an international airport and direct rail links to London, Southampton offers an ideal setting to live and work, with the New Forest, South Downs and Jurassic Coast.

We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalizing your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.

At UHS we’re committed to providing a flexible working environment where possible. Whether you are balancing family, study, or your wellbeing with your career, we want to support you so you can help our patients.

At UHS, we proudly champion individuality, recognizing that outstanding care is only possible with a diverse, inclusive team. We’re committed to creating an anti-racist, anti-discriminatory environment where everyone feels valued, safe, and empowered to make a meaningful impact in our communities. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences to join us in building a healthcare community where everyone can belong, thrive, and contribute.

What you’ll do:
- Lead the gastroenterology dietetic team, including supervision, appraisals and staffing coordination.
- Provide highly specialist dietetic care for patients with complex gastroenterological conditions.
- Drive service development, audits and speciality projects.
- Work closely with MDT colleagues and represent dietetics at key meetings.
- Support recruitment and development of junior staff.
- Deliver training to ward teams and MDT partners.

What we’re looking for:
- An HCPC‑registered dietitian with strong clinical experience in gastroenterology and complex nutrition support.
- Confident MDT working, excellent communication skills and an empathetic approach.
- Experience supervising or mentoring others (leadership training available).
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to support junior staff with prioritisation.
- An interest in service development and quality improvement.

If you want to lead a supportive, forward‑thinking team and help shape the future of gastroenterology dietetics at UHS, we’d love to hear from you.
