Head Groundsperson - West Yorkshire - £40,000 + Benefits
The Job:
As Head Groundsperson, you will take full responsibility for the preparation and upkeep of the racing surface and surrounding estate. You will lead a small team and ensure that the grounds are maintained to the highest standards year-round, particularly in preparation for race meetings and events.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the maintenance and preparation of the turf racing surface and estate grounds
- Manage and lead a team of groundstaff and seasonal workers
- Operate and maintain tractors, machinery, and irrigation systems
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations and health & safety standards
- Contribute to long-term planning, course improvements, and grounds strategy
- Prepare the course to a high standard for race meetings and events
The Company:
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and proactive Head Groundsperson to lead the maintenance and development of a prestigious racecourse set within 295 acres of stunning Yorkshire countryside.With a rich heritage this venue hosts some of the early highlights of the Racing season, alongside a competitive flat racing programme. This role offers the chance to play a key part in delivering exceptional racing conditions and maintaining high standards across the grounds.
The Candidate:
- Proven experience in grounds management, ideally within racing or sports turf
- Strong leadership and organisational skills
- Solid understanding of turf care, machinery, and best practices
- Knowledge of relevant regulations and safe working procedures
- Flexible approach to working hours, including weekends and bank holidays
- Relevant qualifications in turf management (desirable)
- Good communication skills and a proactive attitude
- Enjoy working outdoors in a hands-on environment
The Package:
