Overview

An independent, family-run veterinary practice in North Walsham, Norfolk is seeking a Small Animal & Exotics Veterinary Surgeon to join its growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a vet looking to develop their career within a supportive, well-equipped practice that prioritises both clinical excellence and work-life balance.

The practice offers a diverse caseload including small animals and exotics, alongside advanced services such as CT scanning, diagnostic imaging, cardiology, acupuncture, and laser therapy.

The Role

The successful candidate will join an experienced day team, delivering high standards of patient and client care while benefiting from a structured rota designed to support work-life balance, including regular 4-day weekends off.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing high-quality veterinary care to small animals and exotics
• Managing a varied medical and surgical caseload
• Building strong client relationships and continuity of care
• Collaborating with a highly experienced clinical team
• Participating in daily clinical rounds and case discussions


A consultation-only role can also be considered.

About the Practice

Established in 2014, this purpose-built veterinary practice has grown into a multi-vet team comprising:

• 6 day vets and 4 night vets
• 9 Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVNs), Animal Nursing Assistants, and reception staff


The practice is known for its friendly, collaborative culture and high staff retention.

Facilities and services include:

• On-site CT scanner
• Digital and dental x-ray
• New ultrasound machine
• Multiple video endoscopes
• Laser therapy and cryopen
• Platelet regeneration and stem cell therapy
• In-house digital cytology


The team includes certificate holders in:

• Exotics
• Diagnostic Imaging
• Cardiology
• Acupuncture
• Emergency & Critical Care


The practice is proudly accredited as:

• Gold Feline Friendly
• Gold Rabbit Friendly
• Dog Friendly


Support & Development

The practice welcomes applications from both experienced veterinary surgeons and recent graduates. Full support is provided, including:

• VetGDP mentoring
• Funded CPD and certificate support
• Opportunities to expand referral services


Support is always available for exotic cases, making this an ideal environment for those looking to develop skills in exotics medicine.

Working Hours & Rota

• 4-day working week
• Shifts: 8:30am – 7:00pm
• Daily clinical rounds for case planning and handovers
• Dedicated night team (no night shifts required)
• Evening consult support from night team (7:00pm – 9:30pm)
• Regular 4-day weekends off


Salary & Benefits

• £35,000 – £75,000 salary (dependent on experience)
• 20-minute consultations (longer for complex cases)
