Summary
Job Title: Production Technician – Chemical Manufacturing (with Mechanical Skills)
Location: Slaithwaite, Huddersfield
Salary: £35,000 to £50,000+ depending on experience
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: 40 hours per week, times and days are flexible and can be negotiated at time of interview.
About the Role
Stable, long-term role in a growing chemical manufacturing business – offering varied, hands-on work across production and plant equipment.
We are looking for a hands-on Maintenance Engineer/Production Technician to lead our chemical manufacturing process, working with mixing vessels, pumps, and batch processes. This is a practical, shop-floor role combining engineering/maintenance and basic mechanical work with liquid production processes, ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving and keeping plant running efficiently.
You’ll be initially involved in batching, mixing, and transferring liquid products, while also supporting fault finding and maintenance on equipment.
This role involves hands-on work in a chemical manufacturing environment, including manual handling, operating production equipment, and being on your feet for extended periods. Due to the nature of the work and safety requirements, applicants must be capable of working in a physically active production environment and responding to operational issues on the plant.
On a future projection of the company, the correct individual will be responsible for putting a production team together, leading to a more management role, with salary reflecting this.
Key Responsibilities
Batch Production & Process Operations
Carry out batch manufacturing of liquid chemical products
Operate and monitor mixing vessels, dosing systems, pumps, and transfer lines
Weigh and charge raw materials accurately in line with formulations
Follow production instructions and maintain consistent product quality
Complete batch records and production documentation
Plant & Equipment Support
Maintenance of pumps, valves, pipework, and mixing equipment
Support fault finding and minor repairs to minimise downtime
Carry out routine checks and basic preventative maintenance
General
Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment
Follow all health, safety and COSHH procedures
Support continuous improvement of production efficiency
Skills & Experience Required
Experience in agrochemical or liquid formulation production (an advantage), or similar manufacturing environment
Understanding of batch processes and liquid handling systems
Practical mechanical aptitude (e.g. pumps, valves, basic maintenance)
Valid forklift licence and experience operating forklifts
Good attention to detail and ability to follow procedures
Reliable, proactive, and able to lead a production team
Previous maintenance or fitter experience
Basic electrical knowledge would be preferred but not essential
