About the Business
Hydro International – Data Insights & Analysis Ltd (formerly Hydro‑Logic Services) is a specialist UK provider of hydrometric data collection, monitoring and analysis services.
Our work supports flood risk management, environmental protection and water resource planning across the UK. We operate and maintain approximately 1,400 monitoring sites nationwide, collecting vital data on water levels, flows, rainfall and water quality that directly supports communities and infrastructure.
The OpportunityWe are offering an exciting opportunity for someone looking to start a new career as a Trainee Field Hydrometrist.
This role is ideal for an individual who enjoys working outdoors, wants to learn new technical skills and is keen to build a long‑term career in the water and environmental sector. No previous hydrometry experience is required — full training, mentoring and development will be provided.
You will work as part of our experienced Hydrometry and Monitoring Team, gaining hands‑on experience in field‑based data collection and equipment maintenance across a variety of environments.
What You’ll Be DoingWith training and support, you will learn to:
- Visit monitoring sites to collect data on water flow, depth, rainfall and water quality
- Install, operate and maintain monitoring and telemetry equipment
- Carry out inspections and basic maintenance of monitoring assets
- Work safely in and around rivers, watercourses and outdoor environments
- Follow health, safety and environmental procedures at all times
- Travel to sites as required, with occasional overnight stays
- Work both independently and as part of a supportive team
Who This Role Is For
This role is well suited to someone who:
- Wants to change career or start something completely new
- Enjoys practical, hands‑on work in the outdoors
- Is interested in the environment, water or sustainability sectors
- Is keen to learn technical skills and build a long‑term career
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Able to swim confidently and comfortable working in and around water
- Willing to work at height (e.g. ladders) and in confined spaces (with training)
- Practical, hands‑on approach to work
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word and Excel)
- Willingness to travel as required
- Full UK driving licence held for at least 12 months
- A strong awareness of safety and willingness to follow procedures
A degree is not essential for this trainee role — attitude, reliability and willingness to learn are key.
