Summary


This is an exciting new opportunity for 2 doctors to embark on a6-month clinical fellow post in the Department of Trauma and Orthopaedics with potential extension to 12 months. This role can be split into4 days ward work (80%) and1 day for personal development(20%, negotiable working pattern).

These posts would suit doctors who haverecently completed Foundation Training and are considering careers in Acute or Geriatric Medicine, Perioperative Care (Anaesthetics/ICU) and Emergency Medicine or General Practice.

The successful candidates will join an existing team of13 enthusiastic and motivated doctors(10 WTE SHOs and 3 F1s) working with Consultant Ortho-Geriatricians and Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons covering general adult trauma. This role is primarily focussed on providingexcellent perioperative careto patients with fragility fractures (Silver Trauma) and complex medical needs.

The orthopaedic department also provides limb reconstruction surgery and specialist hand and wrist services, and other orthopaedic sub-specialties. The service is based on two orthopaedic wards (A604 for Silver Trauma and A602 for Orthopaedic trauma) at the Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI). These posts will predominantly be based on theSilver Trauma Unitward A604.

The department is comprised of 14 full time orthopaedic consultants, 3 consultant ortho-geriatricians with 2 staff grade specialists, 8 orthopaedic specialist registrar middle grades and up to13 SHO level doctors(including these posts).

The successful candidates will provide ward-based care supporting theSilver Trauma Care service and the Ortho-Geriatric Liaison Service, particularly for fractured neck of femur and community trauma. They will also work closely alongside two Silver Trauma Physician Associates, who are supervised by the Orthogeriatric consultants. In addition to ward work the post holder will be encouraged to develop their clinical and professional skills with at leastone day a week dedicated to allow time to attend specialist clinics and MDTs for personal development. Involvement in clinical audit, quality improvement projects and teaching is also strongly encouraged.
