Summary
To work with the Dispensary Team to provide a high quality, accurate, safe and cost effective Dispensing service to Coastal Partnership patients. KEY TASKS To assist in the day to day operations of the Dispensary to ensure the provision of a safe, efficient and accurate dispensing service for patients and staff within national professional and legal requirements. To support & promote the aims and ethos of the Practice in delivering high quality person-centred care Promote effective communication with patients and colleagues within and outside the Team KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIIPS TO DELIVER HIGH QUALITY PERSON-CENTRED CARE Dispensary Team Practice staff on all sites Patients and their relatives/carers, including those with language problems or those less able DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Patient centred care Ensure high quality safe, timely, accurate and cost-effective dispensing of medication in accordance with written protocols and national professional and legal frameworks Participate in optimisation of patients medicines when required as part of the role and counsel patients and carers on the use of their medication as required. Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way Project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via media e.g. telephone or email Act as a focal point of communication regarding pharmaceutical matters between patients, doctors and medical and non-medical colleagues Management & Staff Development Work with ACT, Seniors and other technicians to maintain good team communication and efficient working Assist the ACT & Seniors in prioritising the work of the Dispensary Team so that all prescriptions are accurately and safely dispensed in timely manner in accordance with GPhC Standards of Conduct, Ethics and Performance, Royal Pharmaceutical Society Good Dispensing Guidelines and Dispensing Doctor Association Guidelines Work in all aspects of dispensing & checking as required, ensuring that work flow patterns are organised to minimise the potential for dispensing errors and ensuring that targets and turnaround times are met. Work in accordance with Dispensary SOPs in line with GPhC & RPS principles Assist in implementing new initiatives affecting the Dispensary service and to participate in Dispensary service development and redesign when required Procurement & Stock Management Assist in the cost efficient procurement & dispensing of pharmaceuticals Ensure the cost efficient, safe & secure management of all pharmaceuticals used within the Practicein accordance with Practice, GPhC, RPS and national legal and professional frameworks Ensure that drugs and sundries are stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the manufacturer instructions and legal requirements Operate efficient stock systems to ensure continuity of supply for patients and minimise wastage of out of date stock Endorse prescription forms as appropriate, collate and forward the forms in a secure manner for processing and reimbursement. Ensure that all monies received or handled on behalf of the Practice are appropriately recorded Participate in departmental audits and project work as necessary To undertake other necessary work as may be required and appropriate to maintain a high quality and efficient dispensing service This job description is not exhaustive and may be amended to suit the needs of the practice.
