Summary
Springwood High School is currently looking to appoint a dedicated and motivated Learning Mentor specialising in Mathematics to join our vibrant department on a Maternity Cover basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for a committed professional to join our team and play a pivotal role in supporting our students' academic development.
Springwood High Schools Mathematics Department follow a mastery curriculum with a focus on deepening understanding at the heart of all lessons. Pupils enjoy their Maths lessons and our staff are hardworking, dedicated and passionate about developing our students, themselves and the department. We have a bank of resources that staff can use if they wish to, as well as subscribing to mathspad, mathsbox, Dr Frost and hegarty maths. We have close links with the Cambridge maths hub and the AMSP, and are keen to get students involved in extra-curricular and enrichment opportunities. We host regional competitions for our local primary and secondary schools and also take part in the UKMT maths challenges
Start Date: 01 Sept 2026
Hours: 33.75 hours/week, 39 weeks/year, (Term Time + 1 week)
Salary: Scale D, Point 6 - £ 13.47/ hour, approx. £20,299/year (Salary £25,989 FTE, based on a 37hr week – please note that the salary is pro rata)

Purpose of the Job
To support students in Maths, specifically those that are showing signs of underperforming, helping them overcome their barriers to learning and fully engage with lessons to become more effective learners, and to improve academic progress.
Responsibilities, but not limited to:
Work on a one-to-one basis with students who have missed parts of the curriculum or who have specific weaknesses.
Work with small groups of students during lesson times to either support their normal Maths lesson, or extend their understanding of specific topics.
Work within a classroom supporting the class teacher to help aid pupils understanding.
Lead the intervention programme for KS3 pupils during form time.
