Summary

​Equans are looking for a General Manager to join our team at Addenbrooke's Treatment Centre in Cambridge. This is a permanent, full-time role, working 40 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary, company vehicle or allowance, bonus and benefits package. The General Manager will be accountable for the safe, compliant and commercially successful delivery of Hard FM services across a complex, operational healthcare estate under a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) contract. The role holder will lead multi-disciplinary engineering, compliance, projects and support teams to deliver high-quality services in a live clinical environment, protecting patient safety, statutory compliance and contractual performance at all times. Operating as the senior on-site leader, the General Manager will own the client relationship, drive service excellence against stringent Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and oversee a comprehensive capital works and life cycle investment programme. The role demands a strong, confident individual with the presence, credibility and resilience to manage a strained client relationship, address legacy issues, and upon trust while safeguarding profitability and compliance. This is a complex and critical role, we are looking for an individual with significant prior experience in leading Hard FM services within healthcare PFI contracts, and with proven senior leadership who is able to step into a complex, pressurised contract environment and perform immediately. What will you deliver? Service Delivery and OperationsEnsure effective delivery of all Hard FM services (including maintenance, engineering, building fabric, statutory compliance, and technical services) in line with contract requirements and healthcare guidanceMaintain full compliance with statutory, regulatory, HTM guidance, and company standards, including robust management of permits, risk assessments and safe systems of workOversee the planning and execution of planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities to optimise asset performance and availabilityImplement and monitor robust operational processes and procedures, ensuring accurate documentation, auditable records and consistent standards across the estateManage service resilience and business continuity plans, ensuring critical healthcare infrastructure and systems remain operational at all timesInterface effectively with clinical and non-clinical stakeholders to plan and communicate works, minimising disruption to patient care and hospital operationsCapital Works, Variations and Lifecycle ProgrammeLead the development and delivery of the life cycle plan, ensuring alignment with contractual obligations, asset condition data, risk mitigation and client service requirementsWorking with the PMO delivery team, you will oversee the operational aspects and interfaces of planning and delivery of capital projects and contract variations, ensuring robust safety arrangements, impact assessments and clear risk managementEnsure that project delivery is compliant with CDM Regulations, healthcare standards and internal governance requirements, with clear roles, responsibilities and documentationAs required, coordinate with Trust management and clinical teams to ensure works are scheduled to ensure minimal disruption to core healthcare services and patient flowsMonitor project performance against time, cost, quality and safety objectives, taking corrective action to resolve issues and protect outcomesProvide clear, timely reporting on the lifecycle and capital programme to internal leadership and client stakeholders, including forecasts, risks and mitigation plansClient and Stakeholder Relationship ManagementAct as the key contact for the client, SPV, Trust representatives and key stakeholders on all strategic Hard FM and lifecycle-related mattersQuickly diagnose and understand the root causes of existing relationship strain and performance concerns, creating and implementing robust recovery plansEstablish regular, structured governance forums (e.g. contract meetings, performance reviews, risk reviews) with clear agendas, actions and follow-upDemonstrate confident, credible presence in all client interactions, providing honest, data-backed insights and clear proposals for improvementManage stakeholder expectations through proactive communication, early escalation of emerging issues and transparent reporting on performance and risksBuild effective working relationships with clinical teams, estates teams, SPV representatives and internal senior leaders to support collaborative problem solvingCommercial and Contract ManagementProvide clear leadership, direction and role clarity to direct reports and wider teams, setting and maintaining high standards of performance, behaviour and accountabilityCoach, develop and mentor managers and supervisors, ensuring they have the skills, tools and support to lead their teams effectively in a complex healthcare environmentFoster a culture of safety, compliance, customer focus and continuous improvement, recognising success and addressing underperformance promptly and fairlyLead organisational change, service transformation and performance improvement initiatives, engaging teams effectively through implementing targeted corrective and preventive actions to improve outcomesDevelop and maintain robust jeopardy management strategies, including early warning triggers, action plans and escalation routes to minimise penalties and deductionsPrepare high-quality, professional reports for the client, SPV and internal stakeholders, presenting complex technical and commercial information in a clear, compelling wayUse operational and financial data to support decision-making, resource planning and prioritisation of investment and improvement initiativesEnsure all incidents, near misses, performance failures and disputes are logged, investigated and closed out with learning captured and embeddedWhat can we offer you?
