We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Pest Control Officer to join our Environment team, working specifically within the Vale of Glamorgan. About the role
Pay details: Grade 6, SCP 14–19 £29,540 - £32,061 (subject to pay award)
Hours of Work: 37 hours per week (flexible working applies)
Main Place of Work: Main office Barry Civic Offices, with work undertaken at various premises and outdoor locations across the Vale of Glamorgan.

As a Pest Control Officer, you will:

Deliver a comprehensive, public‑health focused pest control service, including the safe preparation and application of baits, poisons, traps and insecticides
Inspect land and premises to assess, identify and treat pest infestations
Maintain accurate records of pesticide and poison usage
Act as a relief Dog Warden when required to support wider Public Protection functions
Handle departmental equipment and maintain relevant records
Use IT systems effectively to support service delivery, including Microsoft 365
Work in accordance with all health and safety, safeguarding, equalities and environmental policies
This role involves outdoor work in all weather conditions, physical activity and the handling of sick, injured or dead animals.

About you
About You

We’re looking for someone who is:

Confident, flexible and able to work both independently and as part of a wider team
Able to prioritise workload and respond effectively to varied and sometimes challenging situations
Comfortable communicating with a wide range of people in a public‑facing role
Computer literate with good literacy and numeracy skills
Willing to work under instruction and undertake further training
Essential Experience

Previous experience as a Pest Control Officer or Operative
Experience dealing with sick, injured or dead animals

Desirable Experience

Enforcement or regulatory work
Handling confrontational situations
Dog handling experience

Qualifications

Recognised pest control training from:
Royal Society for Public Health
British Pest Control Association
National Pest Technicians Association
Dog Warden training (desirable)
Other Requirements

Full driving licence and ability to travel across the Vale of Glamorgan
No fear of confined spaces or working at height
Ability to work outdoors in all weather
