Summary
To work within the adult CHD team. This is envisaged as a general congenital post but suitable subspecialties are encouraged if appropriate to service requirements. He/she will also provide outpatient care for new and follow-up patients with CHD at the Basildon outreach clinic There is an in-patient care commitment for adults with CHD with a Consultant of the Week model on a 1:7 basis. He/she will join an on-call rota, which provides 24/7 CHD cover on a 1 in 7 rota. This includes care for post operative CHD patients. The out of hours rota requires a commitment based from home, which includes phone call availability and consult for acutely sick admissions, and a weekend ward round. OP clinics have typically 8-10 patients with 2-4 new patients per list. The in-patient workload is often around 5- 8 patients but varies considerably (includes post op patients) Participation weekly (and rotational chair) at the main Congenital MDTs, a once monthly MDT for simple intervention, and other appropriate MDTs. The post holder will fully contribute to the administrative, teaching and research activities within Barts Health and the Heart Hospital. All consultants represent the department on various committees within the trust as well as taking responsibility for particular delegated areas according to their interests and availability. The Clinical Director is responsible for delegating these responsibilities. The appointee will contribute to the teaching of medical students and trainee cardiologists, and to participate in weekly postgraduate meetings as well as audit, governance and training meetings. Clinical governance is assuming ever greater importance within the NHS and there is strong emphasis on this area within Barts Health. The appointee will be expected to contribute and participate in governance activities in depth and breadth. A strong desire to improve governance standards is essential.
