Within years 1-3, students of the MB ChB programme spend one afternoon a week focusing on generalism and general practice as part of their broader medical training. This is delivered through a variety of learning activities and experiences. The posts available are either to deliver small group teaching or applied clinical reasoning workshops.

Small group tutors are also the nominated "Advisor of Studies" which attracts a further 3 sessions per academic year for a total of 27 sessions.
Applied clinical reasoning tutors teach groups of students from each of years 1, 2 and 3, delivering 13 afternoon sessions (2- 4pm) over the academic year. These sessions concentrate on teaching around specific cases relevant to general practice with an emphasis on developing clinical reasoning skills. 2 additional non-timetabled sessions are allocated for professional development for a total of 15 sessions.
Currently, both small group tutors and applied clinical reasoning tutors are required.
Both these roles are an excellent introduction to undergraduate medical education or a way of exploring an interest in undergraduate teaching and are suitable for certified general practitioners at any stage of their career.
