Summary
This is an excellent and exciting opportunity for a highly experienced, motivated and innovative radiotherapy physicist to fill this substantive post, providing high-level leadership and support for all areas of the radiotherapy service.
You will join a team of 45+ scientists, dosimetrists, engineers, technicians, trainees and apprentices providing a full range of complex radiotherapy services at both, Charing Cross and Hammersmith Hospitals.The service has 4 Varian TrueBeam linacs, 1 Accuray Radixact linac ( a 2nd Radixact linac is being installed), a CT scanner, an Xstrahl superficial unit and an Elekta Flexitron unit. By October 2026 all linacs will provide SGRT. The department delivers stereotactic cranial radiotherapy (SRS), on the TB STx and SABR for a full range of sites.
The department has excellent experience in delivering education and training in medical physics at all levels; STP and HSST, and hosts the London North Medical Physics Training Consortium and has close links with Imperial College.
The department is active with research with direct staff involvement with on-going clinical trials and has a positive attitude towards CPD being pro-active in funding training and educational opportunities including leadership courses.
You must be an HCPC registered Clinical Scientist in RT physics, hold MPE certification and should have considerable leadership experience.
Interviews will be conducted on the 12th of May 2026.
• Maintain oversight and leadership of specialist physics input in areas agreed with the post-holder and Head of Department, taking account of their clinical scientific expertise and the requirements of the Department.
• To undertake risk assessments for these new processes where there may be no precedent.
• The post-holder works in a busy clinical environment and is expected to observe high standards of professionalism and patient confidentiality at all times.
• Act as supervisor for research in the section that is part of a formal programme or postgraduate or doctoral degree.
• Participate in national meetings and committees relating to radiotherapy physics in healthcare to develop and promote national and international standards.
• Provide specialist training of HSST and STP trainees and specialist registrars in clinical oncology.
• Participate in national and international scientific activity to contribute to the development of best practice in the Department and the Trust.
• Take advice where necessary to ensure that all activities are carried out within quality framework and meet regulatory requirements .
• The post-holder is required to move/carry heavy items, e.g lead shielding blocks, heavy scientific apparatus, etc.
