Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) and SEN needs? We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our supportive and dynamic SEMH support team as a Learning Support Assistant with responsibility for escorting pupils on the school minibuses!
About the Role
Safe and Secure Travel: Escort our wonderful pupils with complex SEMH or SEN needs to and from school in our minibuses, ensuring their safety and comfort at all times. You'll be a trusted companion on their journey, following all relevant policies and procedures.
School-Based Support: Be an integral part of our South site, working closely with the teaching and support staff to meet the needs of our pupils. Your presence will help create a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Promote Inclusion: Champion inclusion by providing tailored learning support and SEMH interventions in the classroom. You'll work alongside class teachers and lead practitioners to ensure every pupil feels valued and included in their learning journey. Under the guidance of class teachers, support pupils with feedback and marking to maximise their learning potential. Your efforts will help bridge individual gaps and foster academic growth.
Holistic Support: Assist pupils across all areas of the curriculum, including therapeutic practices, under the direction of class teachers and the SENCO. Your role will be vital in nurturing their overall development. Deliver personalised 1:1 sessions, monitor progress, and mark achievements against individual learning plans. You'll play a key role in helping pupils reach their full potential.
Resource Preparation: Prepare engaging and effective teaching resources as directed by class teachers. Your creativity will enhance the learning experience for our pupils.
Playground Involvement: Support pupils during playtime and social learning sessions, ensuring their health and safety while encouraging positive and interactive play. Your presence will make playtime enjoyable and safe.
Positive Reinforcement: Provide positive reinforcements, praise, and rewards to motivate and inspire our pupils in line with the school’s behaviour policy. Your encouragement will help build their confidence and self-esteem. You will be equipped with the skills to de-escalate and manage challenging behaviour to support regulation and contribute maintain a safe learning environment.
An enhanced with barred list DBS check is required for this post.

About You
To apply for this post, you must have:
Experience of working in a primary school and with vulnerable groups of people.
GCSE Grade C or above or equivalent in Mathematics and English Language and experience working in a primary school.
The ability to apply up to date legislation and practice in supporting inclusion for young people with social, emotional and mental health needs.
Knowledge of other relevant legislation and guidance e.g. health & safety, pupil protection, attendance, curriculum, and employment. Behaviour management strategies.
Knowledge of hazard identification and risk assessment.
Ability to motivate pupils whilst working collaboratively with senior management and staff.
