About the Role
Barnet Council is seeking a Placements Officer to support the recruitment, engagement and retention of in‑house foster carers, while ensuring effective placement matching for children and young people in care. You’ll play a key role in strengthening support systems, coordinating engagement initiatives and helping secure stable, safe placements that promote positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
Act as a key point of contact for in‑house foster carers, building strong and positive relationships

Coordinate foster carer engagement activities, appreciation events and training‑linked sessions

Plan and support foster carer support groups alongside supervising social workers

Design, distribute and analyse surveys and feedback to inform service improvements

Maintain systems tracking foster carer availability, capacity, engagement and support needs

Support development of peer networks and buddy systems for new and existing carers

Work with supervising social workers and managers to identify carers needing additional support

Contribute to strategies that improve foster carer satisfaction, stability and long‑term retention

Assist with effective placement matching to ensure sufficiency and stability for children in care

What You’ll Need
Experience in children’s services, fostering, placements or a similar support‑focused environment

Strong organisational and coordination skills

Excellent communication and relationship‑building abilities

Confidence working with data, feedback and monitoring systems

Ability to work collaboratively with social workers, managers and carers

A proactive, supportive approach to improving outcomes for children and young people
