Summary
Transport Planner – General Haulage
Location: Ford, West Sussex
Salary: £34,000 to 36,000 per year (dependant on experience)
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00/6:00pm
On Call: Required (rota basis)
We are recruiting an experienced Transport Planner to manage the day to day planning of our general haulage operation.
This is a planning led role. You will be responsible for routing, fleet utilisation, driver liaison, and sourcing backloads to keep vehicles moving efficiently and profitably.
Key Responsibilities:
• Plan daily and weekly vehicle routes
• Maximise fleet utilisation and source backloads
• Liaise with drivers and handle live operational changes
• Manage driver holidays, sickness, and agency cover
• Participate in an on call rota
• Provide basic administrative support for vehicle maintenance and compliance
Requirements:
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in transport planning (general haulage essential)
• Proven ability to optimise routes and vehicle usage
• Existing transport industry contacts preferred
• Calm under pressure and confident making decisions
• Working knowledge of transport systems and Microsoft Office
• Basic understanding of transport compliance
Experience with European transport and/or events logistics is an advantage but not essential.
