Greenway and Trowbridge Primary Schools are situated in the East of Cardiff and are part of The Oaks Federation. The role will be based at Greenway Primary School which hosts a Flying Start service on site and has extensive grounds to support outdoor learning opportunities. Greenway works with a broad range of partners to enhance the provision for the community.
Greenway’s Specialist Resource Bases (SRB) support children from across Cardiff with complex needs, including social communication difficulties. We have two resource bases within the main school building and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to assist in developing the bases and join us at the start of our second full year of the journey. We want the new SRB provision to be an extension of our already strong approach to inclusion and to feel very much part of our school family.
Children in our resource base will receive a specialist curriculum to support their individual needs and a sensory based approach focused on development rather than age. The successful post holders will be responsible for supporting the specialist class teachers and address the needs of individual pupils, supporting them to overcome barriers to learning and demonstrate a commitment to the inclusion of every child and ensuring that all pupils have equal opportunities to access a broad and balanced curriculum. The post would suit teaching assistants with experience of working with pupils with additional learning needs in either a mainstream primary or specialist setting. A commitment to play based, experiential learning both indoors and outdoors is essential as is knowledge of supporting the implementation of Individual Development Plans for pupils.
The role requires someone with empathy, who communicates well with families and who fully understands the role of parental engagement in children’s learning. The successful candidate will need to work confidently with a range of professionals and build strong relationships with a wide variety of partners.
