Job Summary
The postholder will work as a Locum Specialty Registrar (SpR) in Psychiatry within the NHS, providing high‑quality clinical care across designated inpatient, community, or crisis services. The role requires a doctor who is Section 12 approved, experienced in psychiatric assessment and management, and able to work autonomously within a multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, including risk assessments, mental state examinations, and formulation.
Participate in the management of patients under the Mental Health Act, including Section 12 responsibilities.
Provide ongoing clinical care, treatment planning, and review of patients within the assigned service.
Work collaboratively with consultants, junior doctors, nurses, psychologists, social workers, and allied professionals.
Contribute to ward rounds, MDT meetings, CPA reviews, and discharge planning.
Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in line with Trust policies.
Participate in the on‑call rota (if required by the Trust).
Support service development, quality improvement, and audit activities.
Provide supervision and teaching to junior medical staff and students where appropriate.
Essential Requirements
Full GMC registration with licence to practise.
Section 12 MHA approval (current and valid).
Minimum ST4+ level experience in Psychiatry.
Strong clinical skills across acute and community mental health settings.
Ability to work independently and within MDT structures.
Excellent communication, documentation, and risk‑management skills.
Desirable Requirements
MRCPsych or equivalent.
Previous NHS experience at SpR level.
Experience across multiple psychiatric subspecialties.

Additional Information
Duration: Locum contract (short‑term or long‑term depending on Trust needs).
Hours: Full‑time or part‑time options available.
Location: Various NHS Trust sites (inpatient units, community bases, acute hospitals).
Induction and mandatory training provided by the Trust.
