Role Summary
The Line Controller / Machine Operative is responsible for supervising production line activities to ensure efficient, safe, and compliant operations. This role ensures that production targets are achieved in line with company policies while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, quality, hygiene, and housekeeping.

Key Responsibilities
Production & Operations
• Supervise and lead production line staff to maximise performance and efficiency.
• Review daily production schedules with the Supervisor/Manager and ensure alignment with operational requirements.
• Complete machinery setup and shutdown processes specific to the product being run.
• Monitor machinery and equipment throughout production to ensure operations remain within defined process parameters.
• Identify performance trends and implement improvement actions to enhance quality, efficiency, and reliability.
Quality & Food Safety
• Conduct routine quality inspections and checks to ensure compliance with specifications.
• Perform hourly metal detection and weight checks.
• Ensure all production paperwork is completed accurately and in full to maintain product traceability.
• Adhere strictly to the company’s Food Safety, Allergen, and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) policies.
• Recognise and promptly report any food safety or quality concerns.
Hygiene, Housekeeping & Safety
• Inspect production equipment for cleanliness, allergen control, and foreign material risks prior to use.
• Maintain a clean, dry, and safe working environment through consistent adherence to housekeeping standards.
• Carry out daily safety checks on all equipment.
• Always promote and maintain a safe working environment.
• Participate in full line strip-downs; heavy lifting may be required.
Teamwork & Flexibility
• Communicate effectively and work cooperatively with colleagues across departments.
• Rotate into Packer duties as required to meet business and operational needs.
• Perform changeovers in accordance with Food Safety and GMP requirements.
• Undertake any other reasonable duties as assigned.

• Ability to work independently using own initiative.
• Strong numeracy and literacy skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Good timekeeping and attendance record.
• Previous experience leading, supervising, or monitoring staff performance.

Cleaning Responsibilities
• Ensure the production room is cleaned in accordance with approved cleaning procedures.
• Confirm that all cleaning activities are accurately recorded using the relevant documentation.
