Summary
Prospero Teaching is seeking a reliable and caring Learning Support Assistant to support pupils in the Portsmouth area. This long‑term role involves working with children who may require additional help with learning, confidence, concentration, emotional regulation, or accessing the curriculum.
You will work alongside teachers and support staff to provide tailored assistance throughout the school day, helping pupils feel supported, engaged, and able to make progress in a structured classroom environment. This is a rewarding position for someone who enjoys helping young people overcome challenges and succeed academically and socially.
The role is well suited to individuals from care, support work, youth services, SEN settings, or graduates seeking meaningful experience within education, psychology, or child‑related careers.
- Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to pupils needing additional help
- Assist pupils with classroom tasks, learning activities, and routines
- Help students maintain focus, confidence, and engagement
- Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour
- Work closely with teachers to support learning strategies
- Encourage independence, resilience, and social development
- Contribute to a calm, inclusive and supportive learning environment
- Experience working with children or vulnerable individuals
- Calm, patient, and confident in a classroom setting
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Able to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
- Adaptable and reliable
- Passionate about supporting young people to reach their potential
- Psychology, education, or child‑related graduates encouraged to apply

- Pay Rate: £14.66 - £15.66 per hour
- Contract: Long‑term
- Experience with children preferred
- SEN experience beneficial but not essential
- Safeguarding training can be provided
- Right to work in the UK
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
- Two relevant references
- Free accredited CPD, including safeguarding & behaviour management
- Ongoing support from a dedicated consultant
- Long‑term opportunities with potential progression
