We are looking for an exceptional Governance Professional to oversee all aspects of governance effectiveness and compliance across the Trust. Working closely with the CFO, CEO, and Chair of Trustees, you will act as the lead adviser on all governance issues.You will not only perform the vital role of clerk to the Trust Board and its committees but also lead the development of our governance framework. By ensuring our structures are robust, compliant, and perfectly aligned with our strategic priorities, you will enable our educational leaders to focus on what matters most: achieving excellence for our students.Key Responsibilities
Leading governance & strategic advice: Provide advice relating to governance and statutory compliance; keep the Board focussed on its core strategic priorities.Professional clerking & administration: Provide a clerking service for meetings and hearing; set the annual meeting cycle and prepare agendas; manage the flow of information between the Trust Board, Academy Committees, and Members; meet strict administrative deadlines such as prompt circulation of paperwork and minutes.Ensuring statutory compliance: Ensure strict adherence to the Academy Trust Handbook and governance legislation; maintain all statutory records; Ensure governance-specific risks are captured in the Trust’s risk register and support the production of the annual governance statement; oversee the publication of statutory documents on Trust and school websites; carry out the duties of Company Secretary.Coordinated support & board development: Develop and oversee strategies for recruiting governors and trustees; lead the planning of governance induction and continuous professional development (CPD); manage board self-evaluation and external reviews; facilitate networks and strong communication across all tiers of governance.About you as the ideal candidate

Knowledgeable: You have a strong understanding of education legislation, the Academy Trust Handbook, and effective MAT governance frameworks.Strategic & proactive: You can design governance structures that provide high-level, independent, and risk-informed advice.Organised: You can comfortably manage competing priorities, complex document management, and strict administrative turnaround times.Ethical & collaborative: You are a role model for effective governance, capable of building productive relationships across all levels of the Trust while maintaining your professional independence.How to apply
