Who are we looking for?
Totton College is looking for an Estates and Facilities Supervisor to join our team, protecting and maintaining the Totton College campus. This role ensures that college buildings, including satellite sites, are maintained to a high standard and comply with all relevant statutory and regulatory requirements.
The ideal candidate will have:
Previous procurement experience and strong negotiation skills in setting up contracts and managing ad-hoc purchases.
Management experience, leading a team of 8 experienced staff
A commitment to maintaining high standards across all facilities

Duties, responsibilities, and experience required, include but are not limited to:
To ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Estates and Facilities and cleaning teams.
To carry out regular inspections of the condition of college buildings and where necessary, diagnose the cause of any problems or defects.
To allocate minor repairs and redecoration to the Facilities Assistants and inspect a sample of their work to ensure that it is carried out to a good standard.
To prepare detailed work specifications for external maintenance contractors to quote against.
To carry out post completion inspections of any repairs carried out by external contractors to ensure that the work has been satisfactorily completed.
To assist in the preparation of implementation of planned and cyclical maintenance programmes.
To ensure that the buildings fully comply with relevant statutory and regulatory standards, including but not limited to, gas and
electricity safety, fire safety regulations and Asbestos at Work Act.
Be prepared to make difficult decisions and support direct reports to make difficult decisions.
Own and set direction for a team/direct reports to deliver the organisational and local priorities and ensure that this is replicated through your management chain.
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience
English and Maths: Level 2 or above OR equivalent experience / willingness to gain.
Experience in using suite of Office 365 including One Drive, excel, email, Sharepoint, Teams, inhouse ticket system, operating CCTV and capturing CCTV
Previous experience of managing a team of people working within the Estates and Facilities team
Knowledge of industry best practice regarding property management, surveying and associated activities.
Excellent knowledge of building construction and maintenance, including relevant legislation and regulations (e.g. building control and planning regulations etc.)
Knowledge of health and safety legislation and regulations, including those relating to gas, electrical and fire safety, asbestos, and legionella.
Experience in writing risk assessment and understanding of COSHH.
Desirable:
Minimum level of HNC/HND in either building studies, surveying, or a relevant related subject.
Possession of a full driving licence.
A first aid qualification or a willingness to gain.
The role holder will possess excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a team, with excellent attention to detail and customer service skills and hold a personal commitment to equality and inclusion.
