Summary

At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, everything we do is All Here For You – for our patients, our communities and each other. As Procurement Director, you will lead one of the largest and most integrated procurement services in the English NHS, playing a critical role in enabling safe, high quality care and ensuring our £600m non pay spend delivers maximum value.

We are looking for an accomplished, senior procurement leader, educated to degree level (or equivalent experience), professionally qualified (MCIPS) and with deep knowledge of public sector and healthcare procurement legislation and best practice. You will bring substantive experience of leading large, multidisciplinary procurement teams, managing high value and high-risk commercial activity, and operating confidently at Board and system level.

Based at Trafford CSBU and reporting to the Deputy Chief Finance Officer, this role carries responsibility for a mature, end to end procurement function covering full purchase to pay, inventory and materials management. You will combine strong commercial and financial acumen with advanced analytical skills and the ability to influence senior stakeholders through clear, credible communication. A compassionate, inclusive leadership style and a passion for continuous improvement, sustainability and value for money will be essential to succeed. If this sounds like you, bring your procurement leadership and make a difference, at scale.

Collaborating with clinical leaders, corporate services, and system partners, you will provide professional leadership to a large, multidisciplinary procurement service, shaping an inclusive, high performing culture underpinned by psychological safety and accountability. Chairing the Procurement Senior Leadership Team, the role brings clarity of direction, aligning people, resources, and priorities to deliver stretching operational and financial outcomes.

As the Trust’s senior procurement advisor, you will lead development and delivery of procurement strategy, ensuring compliance with legislation and best practice, and providing confident governance over procurement risk, contract awards, and waivers. This includes presenting complex commercial advice to senior committees and Board forums and overseeing high value and high risk contracts, including those exceeding £5m per annum, to maximise patient centred value.

Drawing on strong commercial, analytical and project management expertise, you will steer delivery of savings targets, budget setting, and monitoring, using complex data to support sound decision making. Through collaboration across Greater Manchester and beyond, you will strengthen system working, manage service level agreements, grow the Trust’s commercial offer, and advance digital, sustainable, & inclusive procurement that supports net zero ambitions. In short, your impact will be a resilient, future focused procurement service that supports care today & tomorrow.
