Main Purpose of Job
Undertake either individually or as a member of a team, duties concerned with the sweeping, collection and removal of litter, dirt, leaves and weeds etc. from public spaces (including roads, pavements and shopping precincts). These duties will require the use and operation of the usual range of associated tools and equipment.


Key responsibilities
1. The lifting / manoeuvring/ sorting and returning of a full range of refuse containers (e.g. household bins, plastic sacks, wheelie bins, Orange sacks etc) ensuring that refuse is collected at all times. In addition collecting illicit tipping when required and litter picking on designated area’s as directed by the controller/supervisor. Being fully conversant with operation of any fitted power mechanism and assisting the driver in safe manoeuvring of the vehicle on the round and at tip locations thereby avoiding any hazards.
2. When required, to drive the vehicle if applicable, reporting all defects, and ensuring that the Road Traffic Act is adhered to at all times. Transport and supervise the crew, ensuring the best operational relationships between the service and members of the public. Drive and be responsible for any allocated vehicle and/or plant, including the cleansing and routine maintenance of the vehicle/plant and any power mechanism fitted to the vehicle.
3. Liaising with Refuse Supervisor/Area controller on daily basis in order to report any operational problems (call backs/missed collections/spillages/litter problem areas/Landfill etc)
4. Ensure that work undertaken in accordance with Departmental Health and Safety Policy and procedures including risk management principles to include relevant Safe Systems of Work and the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974).
5. To assist with other duties within the refuse and cleansing section, associated with street cleansing, as and when required to enable the service to react effectively
6. Complete all paperwork and maintain records as appropriate.

Qualifications, Vocational training and Professional Memberships
UK Driving License Category B (up to 3.5 tonne GVW)
To undertake continuous CPC training as required

Operation of other relevant plant and machinery

To be versatile and flexible


Must have full UK driving licence, must have previous Cleansing experience, must provide PPE sizes. Expected to work standard 37 hours a week Monday to Friday 7.00AM to 15.00PM However required to be flexible where service requirements maybe to start at different times and some weekend working.
