Cardiff Children’s Services are looking for social work assistants to work within Cardiff Children’s fostering service.

The successful candidate will join our established and supportive team who, with the support of the Principal Social Worker (PSW) and Service Manager will assist with the delivery of services. The successful candidate will be responsible for case allocation of a caseload of foster carers to provide support and supervision to foster carers.
You will bring to the role experience of working with children and young people, experience of working with multi-agency professionals, skills in assessment and planning and have a flexible approach as the service develops.

An understanding of the relevant legislation for children, including an overview of the Social Services and Well Being Act, Fostering Regulations and preferably some experience of trauma informed approach.

You will be competent in risk assessing the needs of individuals, using systems to record information and delivering care plans. You will be responsible for reviewing quality of care and establishing plans that are person centred and enabling. You should be prepared to undertake appropriate training to support you in your role and be able to work independently and within a team.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. To arrange and monitor appropriate services in line with individual care plans.
2. To provide advice and practical help.
3. To liaise with voluntary and statutory agencies.
4. To complete annual care plan reviews and or reassessments.
5. To participate in team meetings and duty rotas.
6. To undertake these duties in line with Council Policies and Procedures.
7. To undertake training and self-development and to contribute to this process in others.

Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent

NVQ/GNVQ Level 3 or 4 in Social Care

Experience of working with older people and adults with a physical disability through direct contact in a working environment. Experience of working with staff from a wide variety of agencies.

Experience of working within a hospital setting.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Ability to make relationships with se5rvice users and carers.

Administrative ability

Good communication skills

Organisational skills.

Willingness to undertake appropriate training courses.

Empowerment of disabled and or elderly people and their carers.
Mostly office based but could be called on to visit service users as needed. Full Valid Driving Licence
