Specialist Senior Dental Officer -Band C Part-time - 22.5 hours per week (Up to 0.6 wte) Salary is NHS Salaried Dentists Band C – FIXED TERM 12 Months

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the UHBW Primary Care Dental Service. We are looking for an experienced and caring clinician with GDC specialist registration in either: Special Care / Paediatric Dentistry / Restorative Dentistry / Oral surgery- to join our team of Dentists, for a fixed term post, 12 months. .

Your main area of responsibility will be to provide support and advice, including treatment planning/case discussions on complex patients with / for colleagues working within the service. There will also be a treatment role, mainly for those patients unable to be treated by other Dental staff.

Experience of working alongside a Dental Therapist and in treatment of patients in a special care dental service setting and using sedation is essential. The post includes the provision of domiciliary care and sedation and the provision of dental care under local anaesthesia as required.

You will have excellent, experienced nursing support. You will also be able to take an active role in peer review, clinical governance and clinical audit projects.

This role is very well supported by the PCDS Clinical Director and Operations Manager

Main duties & responsibilities

The post of Band C PCDS Specialist Dental Officer requires a degree of flexibility to meet the many challenges of providing a comprehensive and effective dental service for patients throughout the BNSSG area and B&NES. The post holder will be required to provide emergency and routine dental care for people with severe issues who are unable to receive care from elsewhere within the service.

The post will be based at one of the Health Centres, or Clinics in Bristol and the surrounding area, but will be required to work at other bases within the BNSSG catchment area to support the provision of this advanced service. The post holder will work alongside and is expected to support more junior clinicians with different competencies, or less experience and also Dental Therapists. The post holder will be expected to provide leadership at service level in their speciality, career development and mentoring for their team of clinicians and support staff.

There may also be opportunities to undertake clinical attachments within Bristol Dental Hospital. The post holder will be expected to contribute to service development activities within UHBW PCDS and to develop and maintain positive working relationships with commissioners and other Health Care partners such as General Dental and Medical Practitioners, who may refer patients.
