Summary
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Behaviour Specialist to lead and embed Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) within a specialist residential service supporting adults with learning disabilities and associated needs.
This is a specialist, non-rotational role, focused on improving quality of life through proactive, data-driven behavioural support. You will work closely with the leadership team to ensure best practice, reduce restrictive interventions, and promote person-centred outcomes.
About the Role As Behaviour Specialist, you will act as the lead practitioner for PBS, ensuring behavioural support is:
- Proactive and evidence-based
- Focused on independence and quality of life
- Embedded into everyday practice across the service
You will collaborate with the Registered Manager, Deputy Manager, and wider multidisciplinary team to drive a strong, capable, and reflective care environment.
Key Responsibilities Functional Assessment & Analysis
- Conduct Functional Behaviour Assessments (FBA)
- Analyse ABC data and behavioural trends
- Identify triggers, maintaining factors, and skill deficits
- Develop hypothesis-driven PBS strategies
PBS Planning & Review
- Develop and maintain high-quality PBS plans
- Lead regular PBS reviews
- Ensure strategies are practical, proactive, and person-centred
- Monitor and reduce restrictive practices in line with best practice standards
Coaching & Culture
- Provide hands-on coaching and role modelling to staff teams
- Facilitate reflective practice sessions
- Support and develop Positive Practice Champions
- Contribute to PBS training delivery
Data & Governance
- Present behavioural insights and trend reports
- Support governance and quality improvement processes
- Ensure behavioural data informs care planning and environmental adaptations
Skills & Experience We are looking for someone who:
- Has strong knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
- Can confidently analyse behavioural data and identify patterns
- Has experience developing or implementing behaviour support plans
- Understands least restrictive practice and quality of life outcomes
- Is confident influencing and coaching teams
- Works effectively with managers, nurses, and multidisciplinary professionals
Qualifications Essential:
- NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent)
- Experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities and/or mental health needs
- PBS-informed training (BILD-accredited or equivalent)
Desirable:
- Functional Behaviour Assessment (FBA) training
- Experience in complex or nurse-led services
- Knowledge of Mental Capacity Act, DoLS, and safeguarding frameworks
