This is a 12 months fixed term position with the possibility to extend further.

Bury Council is seeking a skilled and motivated Social Worker to join our Adult Social Care workforce in a newly created role within our Connect and Direct service, reporting directly to the Head of Adult Safeguarding.
This is a unique opportunity to work intensively with a small, defined cohort of adults who are either at risk of homelessness or are entrenched rough sleepers. Individuals may or may not have Care Act eligible needs, and you will work closely with colleagues across housing and homelessness services to provide effective, personcentred preventative support.
This role is about prevention done right supporting people to access community based support, break cycles of repeat homelessness, and live independent, fulfilling lives.
About the Role
As the Social Worker in this specialist position, you will:
- Work with a limited cohort of adults to prevent, delay, and reduce Care Act eligible needs
- Apply adult safeguarding principles confidently and proportionately
- Collaborate closely with housing, homelessness, and community partners
- Deliver flexible, person centred support, ensuring the individual remains at the heart of all decisions
- Focus on outcomes that support autonomy, independence, and choice
Support is delivered directly to individuals, rather than expecting them to attend traditional appointments. To meet need effectively, the role involves some early morning and evening work, planned in line with service demands and individual circumstances.
About You
We are looking for a qualified Social Worker who:
- Is registered with Social Work England
- Has strong knowledge of relevant adult social care legislation and safeguarding practice
- Is confident applying legislation and policy to complex situations
- Is passionate about prevention, autonomy, and strengthsbased practice
- Communicates well and works effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Holds a full UK driving licence and is eligible to work in the UK

Working Arrangements
Normal working hours are 37 hours per week, primarily office and communitybased. Home working is available where appropriate. Some planned early morning and evening work is required, balanced flexibly within contracted hours.
