Summary

**Please note: Due to the specialized nature and complexity of this position, previous experience in medical rota coordination and working directly alongside clinical staff is a prerequisite for successful candidate.

As the Anaesthetics Rota Manager, you will hold a pivotal leadership role within the Surgery and Specialist Services Division. Your mission is to ensure the seamless operational flow of the Anaesthetics department across both Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals. You will lead a dedicated administrative team to provide a world-class patient journey, while simultaneously acting as the strategic lead for complex medical rota management.

By balancing clinical staffing requirements with the Trust’s operational goals, you will ensure that our theatres are safely staffed and that our consultants and junior doctors are supported by robust, compliant, and efficient scheduling. This is a fast-paced role for a proactive problem-solver who thrives on coordinating multi-disciplinary teams and maintaining excellence in a high-pressure clinical environment.

The primary focus of this role is the expert management of the Anaesthetic medical rotas and the leadership of the administrative support team. Key responsibilities include:

Strategic Rota Management: Utilising systems like CLW or HealthRoster to design and maintain complex 24/7 medical rotas, ensuring full clinical coverage while strictly adhering to EWTD and Junior Doctor contract regulations.

Operational Leadership: Direct line management of the Anaesthetics administrative staff, including recruitment, performance appraisals, and fostering a culture of continuous professional development aligned with the Trust’s "World Class Values."

Service Coordination: Acting as a central liaison between Consultants and the Service Managers, to optimise theatre utilisation and streamline the patient pathway from referral to discharge.

Problem Solving & Compliance: Proactively identifying and resolving staffing gaps or administrative bottlenecks, managing leave and sickness absence, and providing detailed reports on staffing trends and financial impacts to senior leadership.

Communication: Building strong, collaborative relationships with internal clinical teams and external stakeholders (GPs, Social Services, etc.) to ensure a consistent and safe service delivery.

The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK’s biggest and most innovative trusts. Across three main hospitals, our dedicated army of staff care for over 1.6million patients, treat more than 200,000 in A&E, deliver over 8,000 babies and carry out more than 17million tests.
