Summary

Company Overview

Our client is an established and reputable main contractor based in Lancashire, delivering a diverse range of construction projects including new builds, design & build (D&B), and refurbishments notably in the leisure sector. With a strong and growing pipeline of work, typically ranging from £500K to £2M, they are looking to expand their commercial team with the addition of an Assistant Quantity Surveyor.

Role Overview

This is an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join a supportive and growing team. The role will offer exposure to a mix of estimating, buying support, and commercial duties, providing a well-rounded foundation for career development within the construction industry.

You will work closely with the commercial team, supporting the financial and contractual management of multiple projects while gaining hands-on experience across all stages of the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with cost control, budgeting, and financial management across multiple projects
• Support the estimating and buying functions, including obtaining and reviewing subcontractor and supplier quotations
• Assist with procurement and negotiation to ensure best value and quality
• Support the preparation of cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and financial updates
• Work alongside senior team members to manage contracts and ensure compliance with terms
• Liaise with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams
• Provide general commercial support across new build, refurbishment, and D&B projects
• Assist in monitoring project performance to ensure delivery on time and within budget

Key Requirements

• Ideally 1+ year experience in a Quantity Surveying or similar role
• Some exposure to estimating, buying, or commercial project support
• Understanding of construction processes, particularly within main contracting
• Strong communication skills and willingness to learn
• Good numerical and commercial awareness
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Degree in Quantity Surveying or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
