Summary
As a General Practice Assistant, youll play a vital role in supporting GPs, nurses, and the wider practice team. Youll help prepare patients for consultations, carry out basic clinical tasks, manage clinical correspondence, and ensure patients receive a smooth, efficient, and compassionate service. Youll be patient-facing, organised, and confident using IT systems, with training and support provided where required. Key Responsibilities Clinical Duties Preparing patients by taking basic observations (blood pressure, pulse, weight) Performing ECGs and urine dip tests Supporting with wound care, dressings, and immunisations Explaining procedures and treatment plans to patients Arranging follow-up appointments and managing test results Liaising with hospitals and external services on behalf of clinicians Potential involvement in phlebotomy (subject to training and competence) Administrative Duties Processing and coding clinical correspondence accurately Maintaining patient records using EMIS / SystmOne Managing patient queries via phone, email, and in person Booking appointments, referrals, and follow-ups Sorting clinical post and preparing documentation for GP sign-off Ensuring consulting rooms are stocked, clean, and equipment sterilised Why join us?
